Day 11

Pastor Rachel Morehouse

As with any relationship communication is vital. Our relationship with God is really no different, He loves to hear from us… but, He also wants to speak to us.

I love the story of Samuel when he is just a child and hears God call his name and he assumes it’s the priest, Eli (1 Samuel 3). After 3 times of hearing his name being called and running to Eli the Bible says, “Then Eli understood it was the Lord who was calling the boy. So Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down, and it shall be that if He calls you, you shall say, ‘Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.”

The story goes on to say how the Lord then came again and spoke to Samuel. The point of the story is, Samuel was hearing God before he even recognized the voice, the last time he went back to lie down and I imagine that probably included some waiting before he heard the voice of the Lord that last time.

You probably already have heard the voice of God but maybe didn’t recognize it. I was praying one day and asking God to just give me one word, a single word from Him, anything He wanted to say and I heard God say back to me, “Why ask me for just one word when I have many I want to tell you?” I was limiting the conversation by what I was expecting. God wants to speak to you.

1 Kings 19:11-13 (NKJV)

11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

Start listening for that still small voice, that word still means - quiet, calm, gentle.

I want to encourage you today to spend some time listening. Write down what you hear, feel or sense God is saying to you.

Today I take some time to listen, open my ears and my heart to know and to hear Your voice. I know you are a God that speaks, make me sensitive to hear You. In Jesus’ Name!
