Day 2

Pastor Rachel Morehouse

Fasting holds a special place in my heart, it’s a love/dislike type of a relationship for me. My flesh gets hungry and I seem to crave everything that I have decided to fast, but my spirit LOVES the intimacy that I feel with Jesus during these seasons of sacrifice.

Is this going to be easy? Probably not. Is there going to be temptation to quit? Definitely! Is it worth it? YES!

As a child I remember my Dad fasting, He would sit at the table with us while we ate dinner and he would have his cup of orange juice. I never heard him complain or say he was hungry, I do remember him getting up earlier than the rest of us, he would have his mug of coffee, his Bible, his journal and his colored pens for marking his Bible. And now that I am a parent I pray that my children will follow the example I set in my life.

This isn’t for nothing, there will be days that you feel like “it isn’t working” or “nothing is changing” but  it says in  2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

Can I challenge you to fast something bigger and harder than you ever have? Can I challenge you to fight harder than you have ever fought, pray harder than you have ever prayed and worship deeper than before?

Strength is developed  under pressure and I believe that the things that we go through are always to create a solution to someone else’s problem. What you have been through or are going through is meant to either help someone along the way or when you come through it to help someone else walk through that same thing. Do you know where roots grow? In the dark, in the places that don’t seem beautiful, the places where life can be messy and dirty. My deepest roots in my faith have grown in the tough seasons, and even though they were not fun to walk through I am who I am today because of the battles I have fought.

Every fast I seem to find an anthem song that plays over and over, I get up earlier than I usually would to meet with Jesus consistently every day, and I think that Jesus loves that because I don’t love to get up early! Ha! So here is my list of “must have’s” for my fast

  1. A place that I go to every day at the same time to pray and worship

  2. Worship Music

  3. Journal

  4. My Bible

God will show you things during this time if you are consistent and seeking.

James 4:7-8 TPT (The Passion Translation) “So then, surrender to God. Stand up to the devil and resist him and he will turn and run away from you. Move your heart closer and closer to God,  and He will come even closer to you. But make sure you cleanse your life, you sinners, and keep your heart pure and stop doubting.”

That verse is packed with so much goodness that I could probably speak a whole message on! As we are in the beginning of this fast let us start by cleansing our hearts from sin and doubt, so as we draw closer to God during this fast “He will come even closer to us.”

As I embark on this journey of fasting for these next few weeks my prayer is that you will cleanse me. Cleanse my heart, my mind, my spirit. I surrender to You, I commit myself to prayer and worship during this time of sacrifice. Give me strength on the days I feel weak and speak to me during this time. I want to draw closer to you, I want to hear your voice, I want to walk in your ways. I worship you with all that I have and declare that I will never be the same again!

In Jesus’ Name! Amen!
