Jeremiah 29:11 NIV “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
The prophet Jeremiah pens a letter to those who were taken into captivity from Judah to Babylon. In his letter he instructs them to basically get comfortable in the land that they are in. Build houses, plant gardens, get married, have sons and daughters, and lastly to seek peace and prosperity in the city they are in.
He also tells them in his letter not to allow those people of influence such as the prophets around them to lie to them and tell them that they will not be in that land long, because they actually will be where they are for seventy years. (Jeremiah 29: 1-10)
And he lets them know that God says: For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Unfortunately, the reason why Judah was in captivity in Babylon was because of poor decisions (Jeremiah 25: 1-14), but because of God’s unconditional love he lets them know, in spite of what has happened and where you are at right now, I still have plans for you. My plans are to prosper you and not to harm you, my plans are to give you hope and a future.
This is one of my most favorite bible scriptures because to me, it shows the very nature of God. This scripture shows us that:
1. God loves us
2. God does not forget about us
3. God has big plans for us
As we go through this Christian walk, I believe it is important that we learn to trust God in everything. I am not saying that will always be easy, especially during life’s dark and difficult times, but if there is one thing we can be assured of, is if/when we face those dark and difficult times, in God’s time he has a way of orchestrating things to work toward a proper conclusion. (Romans 8:28, Genesis 37, 38-48)
Remember believer, God has a plan for you, and his plan is huge for you. His plan is to give you hope and a future. In this new year I just want to encourage you. In spite of what you may go through, keep believing and trusting in the God of the bible every step of the way.
